Driver Assessment Fee

Upon conviction for an alcohol related driving offense, the New York State Department of Motor Vehicles will impose a driver responsibility assessment of $250 per year for 3 years ( total $750). This is in addition to any fines and surcharges the court imposes and is payable to the NYS DMV. The Department of Motor vehicles will also impose a driver responsibility assessment when a person receives 6 or more points on their license within an 18 month period. (18 month period calculated by date of violation)
